Man Machetes Then Pours Acid On Friend Over MONEY

"WE are seeking forgiveness from the people over the number of people killed in the country. I appeal to those who lost their loved ones to our activities to forgive us and on our side we have forgiven all those who committed atrocities against us.I want to state clearly that we have no hands in the unfortunate attack on the secondary school.”

With these words, Imam Muhammadu Marwana, an influential member of the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram sect, on Monday confirmed a ceasefire agreement with the Federal Government to end their deadly activities across most states of Northern Nigeria, which have claimed about 4,000 lives and destroyed propertiesworth billions of Naira since 2009.

The agreement came exactly 82 days after the Federal Government raised a 25-man committee to work out modalities for granting the amnesty to the sect.

Also, the Federal Government has confirmed that it had signed a ceasefire agreement with the militant group. Minister of Special Duties and Chairman of the Peace and Dialogue Committee in the North, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki announced theceasefire agreement on the Hausa service of Radio France International in Kano.

The announcement came on the eve of theMuslim Holy month of Ramadan expected to start Wednesday.

President Goodluck Jonathan's Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki said: “We have sat down and agreed that Jama’atu Ahlul Sunnah Lidda’awati wal Jihad, known as Boko Haram will lay down their arms as part of the agreement so as to end the insurgency.

Government agreedwith ceasefire and will look into ways to ensure that the troops relax their activities till the final take off of the ceasefire.”

Confirming the truce, Boko Haram agent, Imam Muhammadu Marwana, said: “This ceasefire, in sha’Allahu, from the time I am talking to you (Radio France Hausa Service)we have ceasefire because of the discussion held so as to have peace over this struggle.”

Sounding apologetic during the Radio news, Imam Marwana declared that “I appeal to those who lost their loved ones to our activities to forgive us and on our side we have forgiven all those who committed eatrocities against us”

Cleric Asks Jonathan To Sign Anti- gay BillInto Law

Peter’s Anglican Catheral Asaba, Delta State, Rev Justin Mogekwu, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sign into law, the anti-gay bill passed by the NationalAssembly.

The cleric made the call, weekend in his sermon at the Cathedral, during a funeral service for mother of Director- General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, NIALS, Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, the late Mrs Angelina Azinge.

Mogekwu condemned same sex marriage, describing same as evil and a curse from hell.

He said: “Same sex marriage is a curse from hell; it is not a human right. Imagine what would have happened when your father wanted to marry your mother and said to his own father, dad, I have seen theperson I want to marry and he said, ‘fine, bring the person home and let me see her.’And then he goes to bring one Isaiah, saying,‘ dad this is my wife to be.”

The cleric described gay marriage as evil and wickedness, which must be resisted with the last drop of our blood.

He berated the US President Barrack Obama, for advocating same sex marriage, describing it as a next step to heinous sex perversion.

He warned that if not checked, the next thing will be for somebody to say: “I want to marry my dog.” He noted that President Jonathan must notdelay in signing “this wonderful bill” as passed by the National Assembly into law.

The Senate passed the Anti-Gay bill, recommending 14 years imprisonment for anybody found engaging in gay activities.

Obi bags Best Governor Award, empowers 5,000 youths

Anambra State governor, Mr Peter Obi, yesterday bagged the best performing governor on the eradication of polio in the southeast from Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation at a massively attended ceremony at the Women’s Development Centre in Awka. Speaking while presenting the award to Gov Obi which went with a cash prize of N120 million, the minister of state for health, Dr Mohammed Pate said the award was not by chance as Gov Obi had distinguished himself in the health sector which he observed had resulted in the provision of ambulances to hospitals.

Gov Obi
accreditation of schools of midwifery and the wonderful partnership with the Church and described the Anambra example as a total package, noting that the state had remained polio-free in the past five years.

Responding, Gov Obi thanked the minister for coming to the state to present the award on behalf of Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation and noted with satisfaction that it was not oneof the awards anyone could suspect as having been bought and said the state government would match the N120m it received with another N180m which would be ploughed into the building of ten more health centres in the state.

Recalling some of his strides in the health sector, the governor cited the state’s first teaching hospital as an example.

‘‘What happened was that the government of the day admitted medical students without a medical school in place and the assessors said they would not accredit the university but I pleaded with them when I came in to give me two or three years to put a teaching hospital in place. B+ut they could not believe me as theythought it impossible that a teaching hospital could be built in two, three years. It was one ofthem that pleaded with them to give me a chance and they did. When they returned at the appointed time they were shocked to see the teaching hospital in place. It has since become the fastest teaching hospital to be built in Nigeria,’ Obi stated to the applause of the packed audience.

In a similar development the governor has splashed N60m on the final batch of 5000 youths under the Anambra State Youth Empowerment Programme (ANSYREP). While handing over the cheques of N100, 000 to each of the successful candidates, Gov Obi charged them to use their money judiciously inorder to justify the state government’s faith in them, even as he charged them to shun thuggery in the forth coming elections in the state.

He expressed satisfaction with the fruitful results already being yielded by the programme and restated his government’s readiness to continue to support the youths.

In his speech the coordinator of the programme, Dr Okey Ikechukwu, commended the governor for accepting to support the programme and disclosed that the governor did not submit any list of candidates to them but had told them to ensure the programme worked. He noted with satisfaction that many of the beneficiaries had made a success of the money and training given to them.

The two events were attended by top government functionaries, traditional rulers, student nurses and stake holders.

A suspected fake National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, Opeyemi Ajala, 34, has been remanded in prison custody afterhe was arrested by the police at Dolphin Division, Ikoyi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, and charged to court.

He allegedly told the police that he was contracted by Olotu Osayowanon now at large to help him serve the one year compulsory scheme with an agreement that he would be paying him N19,000 monthly.

Trouble started for Opeyemi, a resident of 25, Jebba Street, Ebute Meta, Lagos on 27 June, 2013 when he went to the Ikoyi/Obalende LCDA, Ikoyi, Lagos to register for the one year NYSC compulsory scheme as a graduate. The fake documents found on him, according to the police include forged death certificate of one Osarogie Olotu, Acceptance Letter from Eti Osa LCDA, BA Certificate from the University of New Castle, United Kingdom and NYSC call up letter.

During preliminary questioning by the NYSC officials about how he came about the documents bearing different names and not his name, he allegedly said someone contracted him to serve for him.

The NYSC officials reported him to the DPO of Dolphin Estate Division, Ikoyi S.P Musa Abdullahi who directed his men to arrest the suspect and take him to the station.

In his confessional statement to the police, Opeyemi allegedly said: “I am a jobless man and my father and mother died a few years ago, and since I passed out from the school of Fishery and Marine Technology in2009, I have not been able to get a job.

“One day, I went to the NYSC camp at Ipaja,Lagos, where I met Olotu Osayowanon who approached me to help him serve his one year compulsory NYSC scheme becausehe graduated in London.

“He provided me with all the NYSC uniform and kits and he agreed to be paying me N19,000 every month and out of frustration I accepted the offer before I was arrested. I promise not to indulge in such crime again.”

The defendant was taken to Ikoyi Prison pending when he would fulfil the bail conditions.

Photos Of How Nigerian Prisoners Sleep And Enjoy Their Life

Whilst the prisons should be a correctional facility, where people are rehabilitated while being remanded for their offences, ithas somewhat become the opposite in Nigeria. It is like the place where you go to that you may or may not return. People thrown into prisons join the multitude of people, guilty people, innocent people whohave found themselves in the spot with little or no help forthcoming

The deplorable state of our prisons have also heightened corruption around the police stations, where criminals would rather part with huge sums of money rather than stay behind those musty, wee-wee smelling bars.

The number of awaiting trial inmates in different prisons is alarming. Some people have spent eight years waiting for trial. These are factors that the government should look into. The current state of the prisons is really saddening.

University Students Appeal To FG To Settle With ASUU

Students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), have appealed to the Federal Government to settle its differences with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) amicably and fast, to enable them to return to school.

Some of the students told a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent on Thursday in Kano that they were not happyabout the development, describing it as “worrisome” and “disturbing.”

Mr Hamisu Balarabe, a 400 level economics student, said he was eager to graduate from the university when he heard about the latest ASUU strike. He said: “the strike has shattered my dreams because it meansI will have to stay longer than I anticipated.

“Honestly, the strikes by ASUU have disrupted our educational pursuit because we cannot plan our lives anymore. It is verydisturbing for us, especially the prospective graduating students.”

Mariya Aminu, a 300 level mass communication student, noted students whose parents lived outside Kano were even more affected.

She said such students had to spend extra money to travel back home and to school again when they re-open.

A new student, Bilyaminu Abdulkadir, who said that the strike has demoralised him, added that “I don’t even know what to do because the strike came even before I settled down in school.”

He urged the Federal Government to negotiate with ASUU and find a lasting solution to the problem for the benefit of the upcoming generation.

In his reaction, Alhaji Aminu Bello, a parent, also urged the Federal Government to negotiate with the union in order to settle the lingering government/ASUU discrepancies.

He said it was high time the government settled with the union “so that our children can settle down and concentrate oin their studies.

“A situation whereby our children keep jumping in and out of school because of strike is not good for the country, more especially when the crime situation is increasing.

“These children need to be engaged and when they are not in school, what do you expect them to do? These are young adultsand adults who must channel their energies into something meaningful.

“The Federal Government and ASUU must negotiate and find a lasting solution to thisperennial problem, if we all want this country to progress. These are our leaders of tomorrow.”

ASUU embarked on an indefinite strike on July 1, to compel the Federal Government to fulfil its pledges to it, as declared by the National President, Mr Isa Fagge.

Gay Activist Hacks Nigerian Government’S Website Over Anti- Gay Law

Exasperated by the way Nigeria handles the homosexuality matter, an Irish hacker -- who goes by the monicker Paddyhack -- has conducted a cyber attack on the official government of Nigeria's website.

The 'assault' is apparently aimed at makingPresident Jonathan to veto the bill according to which all homosexuals in Nigeria are subject to imprisonment. The website was attacked on Thursday night; though things were later restored, it remains unknown if it were the officials that took matters in their hands, or the attackers stepped back.

Waptoy.tk reminds that, according to the anti-gay bill, recently passed by the National Assembly of Nigeria to the vigorous supportof Nigerians, convicted homosexual persons are subject to 14-years imprisonment.

In his address to Nigerians, the Irish hacker said thus: "Nobody should live in fear of being jailed, when their only action is loving another consenting adult, regardless of gender."

'Paddyhack' gave the President 72hours to"renounce and veto this Bill."

"Failure to follow our order will unleash a torrent of fury aimed directly at the direction of your administration, starting with some startling but unsurprising evidence of corruption in your ranks. No need to start destroying evidence. I alreadyhave it," the Irish hacker, claiming to belong to the global Anonymous group, declared.

Nigeria.gov.ng, the website that was hacked, is Nigeria government's official homepage, equivalent to these of U.S' and UK's governments, and managed by the Information ministry of Nigeria. It is worth noting that this year, the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) department of the Information Ministry gotN63.5 million from the national treasury. Ofthis total, the website in question received N10 million.

A curious fact: the Thursday nightattack was announced by the Irish hacker in advance on his Twitter account: 'Paddyhack' launched #opNigeria on July 1."Just over two hours to launch of #OpNigeria," he tweeted in his Twitter diary. However, web administrators of the Nigeria.gov.ngwebpage were unable to prevent the cyber attack.

Joseph Mutuah, the spokesman of the Ministry, could not provide thereasons behind the government's inability to provide adequate sequrity for the web infrastructure.

"They are hackers," he said, drawing analogy between cyber criminals and armed robbers who break into someone's property.

It seems that 'cyber wars' are rapidly becoming a key protest tool for the social media community of our country.

Paul Okoye finally accepts baby with 19 year old beauty queen, Elshama

In May, we all heard that Paul Okoye, the other half of singing sensation P-Square, had welcomed a baby with 19 year old MBGN 2012 contestant, Elshama Igbanoi.

Paul Okoye has never reacted to the story in the press...to either confirm or deny thathe is indeed the little boy's father. The boy was born April 7th in the UK,four days before Paul and his girlfriend Anita welcomed their son, Andre, in Atlanta

Paul at the time told the Igbanoi family thathe's goingto do a DNA test to ascertain paternity. Maybe he's done it because he has officially acknowledged the boy as his.

Paul put up a photo of Elshama carrying their son on his BB display picture yesterday..with a kiss and big hug smiley
